The Metropolitan racing assets task force expects to have a final report on the
viability of Ascot, Belmont Park and Gloucester Park by August.
Consultancy firm GHD was recently appointed to examine data collected by the
task force. We will await the outcome of this report.
Interesting information from the Symposium
Racing is very important to Western Australia and is currently experiencing a number of challenges.
The RWWA Board has approved a record funding allocation of $136.4 million for the racing season commencing 1st August 2015.
RWWA has in place an advertising Company for the coming season to put forward an advertising
campaign to high light Harness Racing in Western Australia. These adverts will go to air in the campaign for the Inters.Hopefully this will bring more focus for Harness Racing in this State. More exposure is needed.
Harness Racing in Western Australia made it very clear that we don’t want the Government to sell the TAB.
It was put forward at this meeting that RWWA be our spokes person in dealings with the Government to make
sure a fair outcome is arrived at for the benefit of racing in WA. Even if it is sold Harness participants felt that RWWA was the best body to Represent our concerns to the Government.
Contact your local Member and have your say in saying NO to the sale of the TAB.It was put forward by RWWA that
the TAB is performing very well and there is no need to sell.
The harness Racing participants at this Symposium also voiced their opinions on a range of topics relevant to Western Australian racing. Distribution Integrity Welfare, Breeding conditioned races and handicapping country racing where all discussed. I am sure that a full report from the Symposium will be forth coming in the next few weeks from RWWA.
It was just a pity that more people from the Harness Industry didn’t go and have their say it was a very good opportunity to do so.
